Wooden toilet seats are not that hard to keep clean and looking great all the time.
Keeping your bathroom clean all the time can be a very big hassle as it constantly gets dirty with every use, especially the fixtures such as the sink and the toilet. Scrubbing the stains off can be quite difficult for tiles or glass, but just imagine if you have wooden toilet seats. They surely are a great way to incorporate style and class into your bathroom, but cleaning them can also be a handful.
Because wooden toilet seats are prone to rotting because of moisture that is always present in the bathroom, cleaning may be a little tricky because you have to preserve the quality of the wood.
The first thing you need to remember is to get a scrub or a brush that would not leave scratches on the wood. For this, you’ll need a soft bristled brush or the smooth side of the scrub.
When you’re cleaning wooden toilet seats, always use a mild detergent or dish washing soap. Using your typical toilet cleaner may cause damage to the toilet seat as it sometimes contain acids to kill the bacteria. You very well know that acid can produce white blotches on wood, so it is better to just avoid them. Dilute the soap in water and apply it on the toilet seat with the use of your scrubbing materials. It is a good idea to rinse your scrub frequently after covering small areas of the wooden toilet seats.
Once you have soaped the whole thing, wipe off the soap from the toilet seat with a clean cloth until you have totally removed all residues. Do not soak wooden toilet seats in water, especially while rinsing, as it may cause too much moisture to seep into the wood. In case there are stubborn stains that are left on the wood, you may scrub it off using oil soap that is diluted in warm water. Spray the whole seat with a disinfectant to make sure that all the germs and bacteria have been removed. After that, dry any excess water or disinfectant with a new clean cloth.
In order to protect and maintain the quality of wooden toilet seats, you may coat it with a wood polish or a wax after cleaning. It is also advisable to have your toilet seats painted. Aside from the color that it adds to your bathroom space, it also provides an extra layer of protection for the wood. It makes the toilet seat more durable, too.
